From a classroom/teacher perspective, what things do you need to consider when beginning the long-range planning process?

When making long range plans it is important to consider:

  • The curricula and how some topics blend well together

  • Seasons and special days and holidays.

  • Students and IEPs

What school-wide elements must be considered when beginning the long-range planning process?

  • School goals

  • School culture, population

  • Location

  • Field trips

  • Blending with other classes

  • Grade partners

What system-wide (provincial or board level) elements must you consider when beginning the long-range planning process?

  • Character traits of the months

  • Community

WHO should you consider when planning from a long-range perspective? (give specific examples)

  • Students!!!!!

  • Students families and cultures

  • SERT

  • Teaching partner

  • EA or ECE

What are some steps/processes you think would be required before/during/after the long-range planning process?

  • Before planning we need to condenser our: Students and there needs and the prior knowledge they may have, Curricula, time of the year, school community and grade partners.

  • While planning we always need to consider universal design for learning and differentiation to ensure equitable learning among all students.

  • After long range plan we need to look deeper to make unit plans and lesson plans. We need to consider assessments and ensure lessons are planed with UDL and DI in mind.
