Foundation 3- Week 5- Assessment for, as, of learning

1. Consider what you have observed in your classrooms and schools within the context of the readings/videos. While maintaining professionalism (and privacy), how have this week’s readings/modules clarified or reinforced questions or understandings regarding the topics addressed this week?

Assessment guides planning and improving student’s learning and achievement. It informs the teacher and the students of their achievements and areas that require further work. There are various types of assessment that I have seen in action during my field placements.

Prior to any learning teachers often, carry out diagnostic assessments to identify students’ prior knowledge, skills and interests. This help guide lesson planning. During the lesson and unit teachers often, carry out assessment as learning. These comes in forms of exit tickets, simple true or false, small quizzes or even observations. Assessment as learning can help teacher identify any areas of concern. Teachers can consult formative assessment and adapt their instructional approaches to better support students’ learning. Formative assessment can also be in from of descriptive feedback from teach or peer which can help improve learning. Summative usually come in the form of an unit test but can also be culminating task based on a rubric.

2. How might you incorporate concepts from the readings/modules into your LRP?

Assessment chart provides teachers’ with a framework for assessment. It has broad categories within which student learning are evaluated. While planning long rage or unit plan a teacher need to be aware of the broad categories and provide lessons that cater to every category. The chart can also help to create high quality assessment. While creating assessment the chart can be referred to ensure the assessment is balanced in all categories.
