My Math story

My teachers grew up in a culture that undermined girls and women and that wider cultural views affected their education especially when it came to science and math. That meant my teachers were weak at those subjects, therefore struggled to teach it to me. But my father helped bridged the gap. He made math relevant to me as something more than just numbers and problems in the textbook. And he made the math problems hard enough to challenge me but still easy enough to succeed which helped motivate me and truly fall in love with the feeling of success after solving a hard problem. I want to spread that love of math and problem solving to my students. I aim to make math interesting and relevant. I want to show my students that math is all around us. And how everything in the textbook can be applied to our everyday lives. I want to make math problems manageable but still challenging to boost their motivation so my students will learn what my dad taught me. That any problem can be solved if you just persevere. And the satisfaction after a hard work always feels good. By this, I hope to set my students up for success not just in the classroom and exams but in life.
