Mental Health First Aid

Fostering positive Mental health in the classroom 

Activites

  • List 3 things that went well - This continued over few weeks has proven to cause a positive mind shift.

  • List of  Micro moments

  • Name tag with 4 images to describe you

  • Creating a line based on attributes (eg- birthday, color)

  • Fold the line - Pairing activity 

  • Family circle- Ask students to draw their family in a circle

  • Draw an animal you would like to be and say one or two words why you that to be that child.

  • I seat in a chair game - Name game

Classroom Accommodation 
  1. Foster a positive, caring and welcoming classroom.

  2. Provide students with knowledge of the importance of good mental health.

  3. Use positive language and avoid language that degrades mental health.

  4. Have a classroom website where students can access classwork and homework.

  5. Allow differentiated activity and assessments.

  6. Chunk work into small manageable parts to give a sense of achievements. 

  7. Create a calming zone in the class.

  8. Take students outdoors.

  9. Do regular physical activity

  10. Do activities to encourage mindfulness (Breathing exercise, yoga)
